Photo by Ted White City Manager Stephen J. Pauken E-mail: spauken@cityofbisbee.com Phone: 432-6014 The City of Bisbee operates under the Council-Manager form of government. As such, the City Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of all city government functions under policy direction from the Mayor and City Council.
Message from the City Manager Welcome to Bisbee's place on the World Wide Web! On behalf of Mayor Oertle , City Council, and the nearly 7,000 residents of our city, we welcome you to America 's best year-around climate and this historic gem of the Old West, truly an American Original.
Bisbee was founded in 1877 and soon became the “Queen of the mining camps” which sustained us for many years. As copper mining waned in the 1970's, we switched our focus to historic preservation, tourism and the arts. Today, you can come to Bisbee and take in the mine and surface tours, stay in one of our historic landmark hotels, enjoy the architecture of the old west, visit many of the artisans who have established shops in our historic district, and visit a multitude of historic sites within Cochise County. There is truly something for everyone in Bisbee.
Because we have America 's best year-around climate, we are becoming well-known as a destination point for travelers and as a winter destination point for retirees and seniors. The mild winters, moderate high desert summers and affordable living accommodations are very attractive features for visitors and permanent residents alike. Whether you are a visitor just passing through or a permanent resident, we welcome you to our community.
I am extremely proud to represent Bisbee as the City Manager. As a native of Maumee , Ohio , I grew up in an historic community and served as a Member of City Council as Mayor. In Maumee I learned the value of historic preservation, quality of life and economic development. From there I moved to Colorado , and worked in two great communities as the Town Administrator. The high-growth environment in Colorado taught me the values of creating sustainable communities and some new techniques in economic development.
Bisbee has it all. A proud mining history. An historic past. Many artisans in our Old Bisbee community. America 's best year-around climate. But most of all, Bisbee has a bright future, a future we want you to share with us. You can read the Annual Report 2007and view the Power Point presentation from the Bisbee Economic Forum 2007 to become familiar with our community and our future. Come visit, or consider relocating your home and business here. You can get in touch with me by calling (520) 432-6014 or via e-mail at spauken@cityofbisbee.com .
Cordially, Stephen J. Pauken City Manager
