Meets
the first Monday of the month at 6:00PM in Council Chambers at City
Hall.
Purpose:
- Advise the Mayor and Council on art, education and cultural activities
in Bisbee. Act as an official advisory body to local groups on arts
and cultural activities. Review requests and information relating
to the arts and humanities and make recommendations to the City Council
pertaining to various artistic and cultural organizations and events.
Report quarterly to the City Council and submit an annual written
report.
- Assume responsibility for expanding opportunities to experience
the arts. Stimulate, present and preserve, a broad spectrum of art
and cultural activities in the city, community and public places.
Create and administer an art in public places program. Improve comprehension
of arts in the community and development of amenities and activities
which are conducive to the enrichment and improvement of social and
cultural life. Encourage and support development of the arts community
and art industry in Bisbee. Support and sponsor community programs,
events and projects as well as producing events.
- Develop communications with public and private cultural organizations,
educational agencies and business community. Promote cooperation,
coordination, and communication among artists, cultural groups, and
other concerned segments of the community.
- Publish the Arts and Events Calendar on a monthly basis.
- Solicit, receive and disburse public and private funds in support
of Bisbee cultural activities and development. Establish policies
for disbursement of funds. Assist cultural organizations in the areas
of funding and development of financial resources, as in grants, loans
and sponsorships.
- To seek recognition of the commission as a “standing commission”
by the City Council and to be included as such in the next revision
of the City Charter.
